J-Curve Effect

The J-curve effect describes the phenomenon of a country’s trade (current) account deficit to initially widen following a sharp depreciation of its domestic currency.

 

JIBAR Rate
MARKET: General

Johannesburg Interbank Agreed (Average) Rate. This rate is calculated and published daily by SAFEX on their Reuters page “SAFEY”. JIBAR represents a benchmark for short-term interest rates for various periods (1-month, 2-months, 3-months, 6-months and 12-months) for South African rand interest rates.

 

Johannesburg Securities Exchange (JSE)
A modern securities exchange providing fully electronic trading, clearing and settlement in equities, financial and agricultural derivatives and other associated instruments and has extensive surveillance capabilities.

 

Joint Venture (JV)
An operation that is set up and run by a number of parties. IBD has joint ventures with Private Equity and FICC as well as with outside parties.
